A machining error simulator on geometric errors of rotary axis on five axis machines

Abstract
 
Because five axis machines has many error sources, it is difficult to understand the relation between the machined workpiece's geometric errors and the machine’s error sources. In this study, we propose a visual simulator which shows geometric errors of a workpiece caused by geometric errors of rotary axis on five axis machines for arbitrary tool path. An application example of the present simulator to the five axis machining test proposed by Ota et al. [2] is presented.
