Abstract

This paper describes estimation and evaluation of three-dimensional volumetric errors of a machining center by using laser trackers. A laser tracker is a laser interferometer with the mechanism to steer the laser direction to follow a target retroreflector. Based on the triangulation principle, it is possible to estimate the coordinates of the target, attached to the machine’s spindle. We evaluate the estimation accuracy by experiments and simulations, and discuss the error sources.
